So Iva is the one writing most of the posts. Mostly because my schedule is crowded and I just can’t find seconds in my day to sit down and write something. Right now, I’m writing this during lecture on my uni (Communication networks, cool subject
)
Anyhow, some time ago Iva and I did a small photo shooting for ourselves. It was inspired by two things. First, Iva making me put scrub mask on my face and second Nanalew’s video for song Sail from Awolnation which was on constant repeat those days.
As the mask was drying and started cracking, I looked at myself in the mirror and told Iva I have to make photos of that! I wanted something damaged, scary and distinct. So I told Iva to wear her black turtleneck, put the mask on and wet her hair and that I will be the one doing makeup for her (hilarious I know) So I took her mascara and applied it over her eyebrows.
We stepped out on a rooftop, It was a windy day and storm was coming (Iva was freezing). Every now and then there was a moment of sun beams breaching through clouds. Only thing I used was a bouncer. At first I reclined it against a wall, but it was impossible to make it reflect in the right direction without spinning. So, we solved the problem, we called our mother (who was not so thrilled) to hold the bouncer. It was her first time and she wasn’t really clear what is she supposed to do. What bugged her the most was the fact that when she would point it properly, she held it in front of her face, so she actually didn’t see what she was doing
.
At the end, we tried to include that thing for flowering plants, but were not as satisfied as we thought we would be. Plus, there was a real threat that Iva might get cuffed to bed for the upcoming week.
I used my Canon 7D combined with two lenses – 70-200 2.8 IS and 50 1.4. I took all of the photos in RAW so that I would have more control over them afterwards. I know it means less memory space, but I don’t have problem with that if I am doing a photo shooting. I use jpeg only if I need the burst mode (photographing horses in action), don’t have the possibility to have my laptop nearby or when I know there will be plenty of photos (documentation of horse competitions).
Afterwards I used Photoshop RAW to set the basics. I pulled white balance a bit more into the blue and lift exposure for just a little bit, so I could get that glow. What I kind of abused was clarity
I wanted that crispy distinction in the hair area and accent the cracks over her face. I also added some vignette, but only to allow viewers eye to focus on the subject.
Finally I decided to post these photos and write a photo post for a change ![]()
What do you think?
Do you have any questions?
